phone political fad
I got a call today railing on Hayhurst. The person on the phone didn't say anything positive about anyone before I hung up. Okay, understand that if you have nothing positive, don't call! It would have been one thing to put one candidate on a pedestal and the other in the pig trough, but they spent all the time critiquing the candidate with, misinformation, according to the reading I have done on Hayhurst.
I wish these types of calls would be as unlawful as unwanted phone solicitations.

Alaska, coin toss, why
There was a dead woman on the ballot and with a coin toss, the dead candidate won over the living candidate. Okay, my questions is; why was there a coin toss?

not a typo
A teenager carrying a Bible and shouting "I want Jesus" was shot twice with a police stun gun and later died at a St. "Louis hospital, authorities said." -- Associated Press
I have to laugh at this tragedy. I look at it as, "look kid, we tried". The article failed to report what the disturbance was, only that he was a protester.

Halloween 2006
It was a nice party, sadly MH decided to overindulge and paid a minor price on Sunday with mild illness. The goofy thing was the come and go with people and odd circumstances that we call bits of life. Considering this also, Lori beat me to puking! I didn't until 10:00 am Sunday, Lori started in her car and not from drinking.
It was a good time and it was interesting that MR had to run out to get a game -- operation, the wacky drunkard's surgery game. This is not as interesting as the compilation pics Dave assembles, but it will do. I like for ... I am not in the picture. Thanks everyone, as it was great to see you all!

Cast of hundreds
There is a school very close and they have an annual Halloween parade. I missed them marching down the street this year, but I did hear the thunderous drums as they marched in costume along some of the streets. I believe they have enough chapperones to make it safe. It is an old tradition. I know, because I used to be in such a parade myself. My neices also had that privilege.
Toast to you old edition and school!

Pss'd off
You'd think that when a company has your resume' that you submitted, that they would be able to extract data from the resume and put it onto their forms like others, but no. What gives? Worse still, there was a site, I'll have to return there, asking about patents and published works. On the same page they asked what high school I attended and if I graduated. Now, perhaps they are seeking geniuses or it is outright a stupid form.

generally planned for candidates
There have been a few candidates that scare me on their answers, such as lowering "sin" taxes like cigarettes and alcohol, cutting child tax credit and other ideas. Hmmm, I'm still left with a couple of offices staring tweedle dee and tweedle dumb.

labeling
So, charged with assault for labelling a molester (rapist) killer. I'd say, give the tattoo artist a few magzine subscriptions free, during his incarceration. Way to go! Since the rapist-killer plead guilty, there isn't a "wrong guy" situation here. It is certainly Darconian, but I like it.

Plans bring vile
I brought wind to the area by simply making and executing a plan -- leaf raking. I'm sure that at some time I also brought rain when I planned and agreed to go camping.
I might have unwittingly brought wind, because I tried to do a task that requires little or none of it.

bellyaching
Normally I'm bitching about something, which sounds or reads much like simpy bellyaching. I lost a day, being ill on Sunday after way too much to drink. I would like to say that it was junk food, but I don't think I had much food, all things considered.
My bellyaching today is about me!
I'm annoyed and angered that I drove drunk. I am very thankful that no one was hurt. I am also thankful that the police did not pull me over, as that would have complicated my life even more. I hope that this is something that will stick with me, that there is a time to sit and rest and be a weight on furniture rather than a threat to others.
Damn me!

Legal enticement?
I included the advertisement on the right because of irony. Victoria's Secret 5 for $25 pink panties. Inder that, Christian-based ad.
This real job posting seems to me to be child enticement. Teens wanted? Transportation provided? If you can't drive, that makes you around 13-16. "Win prizes" I can't believe officers haven't called this guy to, "chat" with him. If you thought job searching was safe for your naive child, think again.

And in this corner, Watership Down, the book.
And in the second corner, Watership Down, the movie.
"Okay dog, well, we can just forget the rules" and timeline "shall we?" "That's fine with me, chicken!"+
So, who read the book? I don't think the story board personnel read it. Suffice to say, read the book.

2D-Play
They have a messload of games. The most recent one that has caught my attention is Crazy Chess. It isn't chess at all. The goal is to move your one knight across the board as quickly as possible to pick up coins, and other stuff. Meanwhile, pawns are moving toward the bottom of the screen. At the bottom are two castles. If eight pawns succeed in getting past the bottom, you lose. On each level there is a limit to the number of pawns moving. It does not help you play chess. It does help you to remember how to move a knight
Also neat about this game is that you can download this small game for free.
Thanks 2D-Play!

suspended
Now when I think of this term, several things come to mind.
In school, suspension meant, just that to extend out. There were in school suspension where you continued punishment in a room not in your regular classes and out of school, where most disruptive students really ached to be anyway.
Suspension, is in frozen in time or body.
I would like to think also; suspension being like a bridge, being held up by rope, wire, or cable. So in this sense, a suspended senetence could or in some cases should be 10 years suspended by the toes or the neck, or whatever.
In a recent case, a child molester got 40 years with 10 suspended, leaving 30 with possible half off for good behavior. I think it unlikely that upon completing 15 years in prison, he's going to be up and ready for the challenge of "impulse-free" living in society. Uh, no. How about suspended in a spinning ride, where the occupants are flung so hard with centrifical force that they are unable to move from the edge. I will agree to suspend you in a state of 365.25 days in spin 'n' puke with variable oscilation and indidual modulation, complete with 24 hour continuance regardless of weather. Now, to this I would agree. The man finsihes in 1 year after his 15 or so in the prison, without having to worry about probation. Of course, the "worry" then would be that he'd be a veritible mindless drone or vegetable, but I'm willing to live with that. A willless body isn't likely to commit more crimes.
If that seems like cruel and unusal punishment, then I suggest:
15 years mine disposal or
prompt execution or
parole upon reaching 76th birthday or
40 years (no early parole) hard labor such as 16-hour days of textile work or foundry work
how about trash and plastics sorting?
In the case mentioned, he plead guilty, he wasn't found guilty.

no thinking involved
Sheik Taj Aldin al-Hilali declared that women who don't wear burkas invite rape. That's an odd phrase coming from a Muslim who doesn't believe rape exists except for non-Muslims to engage in sex with Muslim women. Here too, the Westerners would be rapists, while the women would be whores. Therefore, easily fixed by a good ol' killing of everyone. He'll double up on bad statements by calling women "meat" and that the White House should be emptied. In retaliation to this outrage, the US did nothing. Huh! We didn't burn the man in effigy, nor start riots. Huh. Gosh! We're missing out!
I would speculate if this is, and I truly hope not, the taught concepts of more tradtioanl Arabic Muslims, then women should be afraid and that is a piss poor excuse -- slavery. I'm surrprised that they didn't take up the sub-Saharan African tradition of female genital mutilation. This practice is to "ensure monogomy" of the woman. The man, of course, has no such bounds. Some, not all, of these Muslim cultures in Northern Africa also have mentral huts, where bloody women go until they are no longer bleeding.
So, is this the standard? What I'd like to know is what is the standard? What group allows women to be, you know ... people? From the translations (Dead Sea Scrolls) and Qu'ran texts into English, it appears to be, well ... a religion where deviation is not tolerated and women don't have a real afterlife, per se. So ... again, I would like to know what the typical concepts, theories and practices are. What I see and get scare me.

scam scheme
It used my name in print and in speech in this flash animation. The goal, get people to commit to $10 monthly charge for a doman name essentially. They didn't use that term for fear of someone finding out that you can get one for $10 a year. Anyway, $120 per year, plus pestering people you know to get on baord the BS train. I wonder how many people jumped in on this.
Really, once they put up this screen, any person could see -- pyramid. I had it playing in the background, then every now and then flipped to it. When I saw later the $10 monthly, I rewound the animation and saw this.

... in the window
I picked up my neice from school, she had a half day. She broght friends with her and I dropped them off at one of the girl's house. I pulled into the drive to see a little girl's face. She seemed happy to see guests -- moreover, knowing that her sister was home. I then saw the shape of a dog, another face. To my joy, I saw the dog barking, though I couldn't hear the noise and the girl approach the window.
The girl began scratching at the window as would a dog. The dog stayed back from the window. It was the funniest thing I'd seen in a long, long while. "How much is that doggie in the window?" The one with the curly blonde hair. It was very cute.

Secondhand Lions
It was a great movie! I was hesitant to believe so until i saw it. It reminded me much of Princess Bride with swashbuckling and boyish dreams and adventure. There was intrigue, doubt, relationship growths and fadings. It had implications, but no sex shown. Apart from the profanity, it could have been a kid's book. I'm glad that they didn't make Michael Cain's character the daring do-all with passion and power, but more as a reserved person.
There is nothing bad to say about this movie. It has re-watchability (credits to credits). I found it interesting that Robert Duvall was in a movie with Kyra Sedgwick.
The overall message was "true love". I shant give away more of the movie.

getting down with the lupine
Watership Down is a story with which I am have finished. I cannot believe that any middle schooler might have been called to read this. My word! Not only is it, well, cruel in some places, but the religious sects, ideals, and rabbits placeing others under arrest is just nuts. I can see a few things in the thoughts behind it, but this is no exodus of history. This isn't Old Rabbit Testiment nor WWII flight, but rather flight of fancy with odd choices.
Hazel should not have been used as a boy's name.
The writing style is simple enough, almost like an improved me on my rough draft ... dialogue, then fill in the backdrop later. I mean this in that you could subtract the "blades of grass delicately whispering ..." and still get the feel for the land and the trials and death of the rabbits. I suppose that I might suggest either a mature middle-schooler to read it, but they'd have to find the first bit interesting, otherwise, they'd put it down and never read anymore. In the middle of it, while their trip is full of danger and learning, you wonder, "why?" I almost interrupted my own reading with a Princess Bride moment, "Who kills Humperdink?" Alas, I'll finish it soon.
I found some interesting sites on the novel, including a researcher trying to find in Hampshire (Great Britain), the areas noted in the book. The paperback version I am reading has a sad little blurred map that is unreadable. For those who read some or all of the Lord of the Rings, it's about like that. The mountains around Mordor about as tall as the lowercase m on 12 point font. Thanks for the barely useful map Tolkein!
Fans of Watership Down have drawn some much better maps that make sense. The time frame seems unclear until you read that it spans weeks. I thought at first that the rabbits were traveling in days, but the text is ambigious in parts. The author, trying to stay true to rabbit thought, denies time and remarks dawn, dusk noon, night, and midnight.
My next assignment, John McCain biography, as it seems, presently that it will be Hillary Clinton (boo -- hiss) vs John McCain for 2008.

Smashes, Thrashes, and Hits? (nope, that's KISS)
I have read a transcript of President Bush's October 25th speech. His main speech was okay, I remark only on a few points, most of which were with the question-answer period after the speech.
........
A brilliant statement: "I do not question their patriotism; I question whether or not they understand how dangerous this world is." He made this regarding democrats. The statement is just about perfect.
----
And this is a big issue in the campaign. Security of the country is an issue, just like taxes are an issue. If you raise taxes, it will hurt the economy. If you don't extend the tax cuts, if you don't make them -- in other words, if you let the tax cuts expire, it will be a tax increase on the American people.. Take the child tax credit. If it is not made permanent -- in other words, if it expires -- and you've got a family of four sitting around the breakfast table, the taxpayers can be sure that their taxes will go up by $2,000: $500 for that child, $500 for the one right there; $500 for this one and $500 for that one.
That is a tax increase. And taking $2,000 out of the pockets of the working people will make it harder to sustain economic growth. So the two issues I see in the campaign can be boiled down to who best to protect this country and who best to keep taxes low.
That's what the referendum's about.
....
Oi! Okay, he lost on that one with the rambling, not really clearly conveying cut taxes to rich to increase spending. This fell flatter than Reagan's "This is not a regressive tax" speech, which clearly was detailing a regressive tax; in that it was a tax inversely proportional to income, which is the definition of a regressive tax. Oh well, he tried.
-----
I think the coming election is a referendum on these two things: which party has got the plan that will enable our economy to continue to grow and which party has a plan to protect the American people.
....
On this I might suggest that parties are not red and green only. I cannot believe that all republicans side with, "Stay the course+ and give tax cuts to stimulate economy." I can't believe that all democrats stick with, "Get 'em out of there now and tax the rich heavily!" I think the reality lies somewhere between. The problem now is that the congress and senate agreed to enter Iraq on false pretenses; no matter to what degree they knew and are now being fed fear of moving out. Lies and fear, sad that people use them (regardless of party).
----
-- the ultimate accountability rests with me. That's the ultimate. If you're asking about accountability, it rests right here. That's what the 2004 campaign was about, you know. If people are unhappy about it, look right to the president.
....
I haven't seen to much of the accountability for anyone in government. This sadly is a series of words like Jabberwocky, seemingly making a statement, but nothing is really stated at all.
-----
As a matter of fact, the benchmarks will make it more likely we win. Withdrawing on an artificial timetable means we lose.
Now, I'm giving the speech -- you're asking me why I'm giving this speech today -- because there's -- I think I owe an explanation to the American people and will continue to make explanations. The people need to know that we have a plan for victory.
....
"We need to know that we have a plan for victory." That's nice. What is it? Would you care to share it with us? I didn't think you would. I put this with the republicans' arguemtns that the democrats have no solutions that they will voice.
----
And I know it's incumbent upon our government, and others who enjoy the blessings of liberty, to help those moderates succeed. Because otherwise we're looking at the potential of this kind of world, a world in which radical forms of Islam compete for power; a world in which moderate governments get toppled by people willing to murder the innocent; a world in which oil reserves are controlled by radicals in order to extract blackmail from the West; a world in which Iran has a nuclear weapon.
.....
Here's my radical idea: stop supporting, protecting, and taking money from oil lobbies. Make oil companies accountable for price gouging and monopolies. Make America foreign oil independant in 5 or fewer years. Permanently illegalize fuel inefficient vehicles for general consumer use. Make non-oil burning public transportation a reality.
-----
They will support the war as long as they see a path to victory
....
Agreed. I think that most people don't see a path to victory. When the government understands that, it will either have to fess up to the plans for "what are we doing" or confess that there are ideas on post-it notes, but nothing beyond that.
-----
And we will not put more pressure on the Iraqi government than it can bear.
…
Later on, Bush remarked, “We're making it clear that America's patience is not unlimited”
----
We did not expect the Iraqi army, including the Republican Guard, to melt away in the way that it did in the face of advancing coalition forces.
….
This was planned to disband the army of the Hussein regime and yet, he didn’t know they would melt away. Okay, sorry, this was a poor statement to make.
Now then, overall, I think he did an alright job of defending his points, but lacked details to convince most people. He had a broken record on "end-zone dancing" and "benchmarks". At one point in his speech, it wasn't clear if he understood benchmarks. I think, for whatever reason, the question broke up his line of thinking, leaving him stumbling over his words. I think it was no worse or better than any other discussion, although he did better speaking this time. He has no doubt that republicans will retain control, but his constiuents are not so sure.
+ "Stay the course" has been purged as it conveyed a static ideal, though that wasn't the implication. A common myth regarding taxes is that democrats always want to tax the snot out of the rich. As most of the congress and senate are rich, that really isn't realistic to believe they they would seek to lose money. Another myth about tax cuts is that it always stimulates the economy. Whereas tax cuts and shelters enable individuals and companies to put money offshore, out of the country, that doesn't do squat for American economy. Like so much of the law, the tax code is like a cartoon contraption. Rather than set a mouse trap, Tom puts together a series of 30 parts to smash Jerry with a safe. Making the tax code more elaborate doesn't ensure improvement or success. It does make it more complicated and with more parts, more areas for error.
KISS -- keep it simple, stupid

Treating 2006
There is always a question about when tick or treating starts here in good ol' FW and this year, it has stayed the same, 6-8 or was it 5-7 last year. Who knows? There is a great inconsistency, so much so that they have to put it in print and on TV. To their defense, Indiana second holdout to swtiching to daylight savings time, now has new hours. What a mess.
So, if you are here in FW, IN, then doorbells will be ringing at around 6. Let's hope for the little kids that the weather is again fair. As for the alcohol-breathing, cigarette smoking nutjob chronolgical adults ... well, may they grow up and put that crap away! What's scarier: very scary haunted house, scary masks, candy-bag stealing teens, vandals, or drunk so-called parents toting kids (maybe not theirs) around neighborhoods?

He's Lump
He's lump; he's lump; he might dead.
Danny died by lethal injection. This famed killer slaughter, in every sense of the word, his Gainsville victims. According to evidence: sex, assault, and murder. They were intertwined into a gory mess left at scenes. Why the heck they didn't just kill him at the sight goes beyond my understanding. He was in court, stood there, plead not guilty by reason of insanity. He had details, opportunity, motive, access, guilty -- and so said the jury.
He slumped -- society's safer.

water fence
This was a tennis court, but the parks and rec are ripping it apart and giving it a new one, oh, well, they're doing something. I've not really heard of anyone threatening to tear someone a new tennis court, but there have been stranger threats.
If you'll note, the color of the water seems odd. Yes, it is aquamarine, through intentional means and algae buildup.

The ducks were quacking away, the geese honking often, dogs entering and exiting the water chasing the thrown stick -- today, cool, bright, I got a chance to see autumn before all the leaves were gone. The folks and I went and they got a short walk. I got some interesting or at least colorful photos.

Famous
I ate at one of two existing Fish of Stroh. This restaurant in the area was about as common as Bob Evan's, but then it collapsed. Shortly after a smaller local comapny wanted to essentially buy the name, and so it lives again. The food was okay, much like Fish of Stroh of "old", though the atmosphere has improved. I found it funny, while sitting there, the background music seemed to be "hits" from 1973-1983.
I will go again, though it isn't really anywhere near where I live now.

Porky pilot
Cursed selfish pilot develops heart.
Porco Rosso another Hayao Miyazaki movie. This time, while he has a young girl in the movie, she isn't the primary focus. She is the one who is trying to prove that she is something, some one and through her, people are changed (though generally due to machisimo battling men fighting for her attention).
It has some mild and deep themes, but the main character's perpetual smoking and drinking and reputed womanizing would make me skeptical to show this to younger people. It is, afterall only a cartoon, but I still wouldn't encourage smoking if I could help it.
There were no shown deaths in the movie and the exaggerated battles were akin to some of his work, but more along the line of caraciture work of Dragonball Z.
Considering re-watachability I would give it a 5.2

Zathura
based on a short book by Chris Van Allsburg. He is the same author/illustrator who did Jumanji and Polar Express. Candidly, between the three of them in movie form, I favor Polar Express. Anyway, the book, short and ending in an intereresting quirk while playing a game, was quite different in the movie.
The movie added elements unimportant such as: single fatherhood (completely different than the short story) and a sister, again different than the short story. In the story there was no sister. In the movie, she played a very minor role, and I guess it was three fold: screaming girl, to interest girls in the movie, demistify puppy love. Anyway, a couple of good elements were there and the special effects were at par (though improved) with Jumanji.
To simplify the plot: two boys facing sibling rivalry and growing pains play a game, where the messages in the game become reality. In the end, the tangent reality (the game they are playing) ceases.
In the end, I think that the two movies (Jumanji & Zathura) could have been run back to back or similtaneously in one film, that way in could have been simple and to the point without the fluff. There was only one big morale in the movie: treat family as family.
Considering re-watachability, I would give it a 3.7 or whatever number I have Jumanji minus .7. As far as family watching -- profanity would make me hesitant to allow younger people to watch it.
"Dick", then addressing it as wrong.

Dog's Life, a Dogumentary is a short piece of crap by a self-absorbed neurotic wench who, miraculously finds other people's lives more important than her own, for a period of about 9 months, then ... back to the old me-me-me bit. After watching it, hoping that it was going to be amusing, I discovered that the dog was the intelligent one.

common danger of drinking
Fort Wayne police are investigating whether a local woman was sexually assaulted before she woke up inside a downtown hotel lobby Sunday morning.
The woman met with police at a local hospital Sunday and said that she was wearing someone else’s pants when she woke up inside the hotel lobby. Her clothing was inside a trash bag by her side. She did not know who called her boyfriend and friend to come get her as her cell phone was no longer working, a police report said.
The victim said that she had gone to Piere’s Entertainment Center Saturday night. She blacked out about 2 a.m. Sunday, and her friend said that she had been dancing with a man who would not let her leave to go home, the report said.
The friend asked for Piere’s security staff to help her get the woman out of the bar but when she returned the woman and the man were gone. Piere’s paged the victim but she never reappeared.
The woman was taken to the Sexual Assault Treatment Center for an exam and interview, the report said.

Trying to be wiser at the polls
I find that incumbent or not, locally the better choices I see are Republicans, for those who care about parties. I really don't care which party, but I am interested in the person. The papers here (online) sometimes detail persons and their short bios. I have read a few ideas, as they were, from some locals who had some good ideas. Others were a bit off. I am compiling a short list for the polls to, hopefully, better and "more wisely" vote, having a better feel for more of the candidates. I have often been ignorant of too many candidates and haven't voted for a particular office, because I could not effectively vote, knowing nothing of any candidate.

Ohio lethally injected a self-proclaimed murdering prophet for the crime of killing a family of five, whom he found naughty in his eyes. He claimed to have heard God's voice and was directed to kill the family. Well, in stark opposition, in accordance with the law, the physician did not hear a call to stop or delay the exectution and did fulfill the state's obligation to execute this man.
Although I didn't see the evidence, I would suggest that a leader of an organization, herein a cult (based on his proclaimation that he was "more than a prophet"), he could very well lead others into more crime had he had access to them. This is clearly a good example of the type of person to execute. It was retalitory, but a tool to protect soceity from murderers, either in their own right or by conducting or eliciting other to do it. Think Koresh, Manson, et. al.

Oh, give me a break! Not only did I not disclose the email address, to where this was sent, out to any employers, but they have sent this to me weekly for a month. Gee, maybe they're right! Maybe I could make $150,000 in my first year selling insurance. That sounds like a good figure. Next, I suppose the president will call me to be a backup astronaut and I'll pick the winning Powerball numbers with the highest ever sinlge jackpot payout to one single winner.

bells ringing
It could be said that I try feverishly to find error and that I'm a cynical because I love it, but ... I saw a movie that I will not critique. Polar Express is a movie that I would recommend. Undoubtedly many others have agreed that this is a good movie; story, dialogue, action, character development and arstic rendering. Alan Silvestri doing the music was alsoa great plus. I find him to be a rare talent. I was worried that Tom Hanks would run the show, but that certainly wasn't the case.

Nature retaliates
I missed a show the folks told me. Nature (PBS) had a show on how creatures were and are entering into suburban and urban areas causing trouble. The theory behind it is, urban sprawl and habitat encroachment pushes many species into darwin's adaptability paradigm. Here, either creatures adapt to siutations or become extinct. Since there are few places to exist beyond humans, they naturally progress into areas where humans are. Thereafter, there are stuggles until an equilibrium is reached eithere with a new relationship or one species being suppresssed or extinguished.
Darn, sounds good! I'll have to make a point to watch it.

webbed
I watched True Adventures of the Ultimate Spider Hunter and found it relying too heavily on Spiderman and Stan Lee. It was a Nature (PBS) show, but lacked some credibility with it's overuse of Stan Lee. The spider hunter himself was much like Steve Irwin. Oh, there's a spider ... let's touch it, hold it, see if we can get it to attack this stick! Oh, look how aggressive it's getting! Wow!
It really peeves me to see someone intentially toying with an animal and trying to provoke it into attacking to "scientically" show wondrous it is and how the laypersons of the world should hold a healthy respect for these creatures. Hey! Why don't the hosts practice what they preach and be less hypocritical and just observe and do some minor voice overs rather than jumping in and shouting hysterically about how neat it is that the creature is now defensive. Really! Go figure! There's a human a hundred or more times heavier and larger than they are.
Lame!
Using the ultimate in fast forwarding, I was able to see some pretty spectacular shots and spiders, but as a whole -- the plunky duck adventurer could have been changed.

Hanna Barbara's ark
HB did a religious series where kids time travel to different religious events. If you ever saw the Dungeons & Dragons cartoons, it's very similar in theme and style. The one I watched was Noah's Ark, which wasn't too bad, bringing across the point of harassment and evil of the people around. The "leap of faith" isn't in the miracle of the ship being built, nor in the gathering of pairs of animals, but in the English-speaking kids communicating with Noah and family and being ingratiated into the move with the ark. Here these 70s/80s kids with era-appropriate clothing launched into near pre-history. That's a leap! It's a cartoon, it's forgiven.
The creators didn't labor too many points and at 23 mintues, it was about the perfect length.

jobs abroad
I have highlighted a few of the tell-tale signs here. The ending is great. Applicants should be native English speakers. Do you suppose that would make a difference? You can teach English in other countries, even if you only have a high school diploma. Eh? Isn't that, like ... gonna be trouble? I think the company might get pwned or punk'd if they chose the wrong dude, get it?

Blinded
I have a couple of trees here that don't drop their leaves for just any storm or just any cold, but only severe cold or tornado wind. I'm not quite sure what's wrong with the trees, but they are greedy leave hoarders that keep raking a full-season job, regardless of the rest of the area. BTW: if you have a chain link fence ... you are going to get leaves and its inescapable. The leaves will be mostly neighbors' leaves.
Some time I'll see a shot like this again and shoot it with my camera rather than this lackluster pic from the cellphone.

Sometimes laypersons just don't understand
From the local police briefs there are ... well, peculiarities about the charges and sentences. Whereas some drunk drivers are held without bail, others get ROR. Cons who resist arrest and are dealing cocaine get bail, but not other criminals. It's nice to have the info, but it leaves me not understanding. I'm sure there are reasons for it all, but luck of the draw with judges clearly plays a role. It's just intersting to see.
Aaron Hathaway, 34, was booked on a probation violation charge. He was being held without bail.
Amanda Green, 50, was booked on a probation violation charge. She was being held without bail.
Thomas Pendergraft, 35, was booked on a probation violation charge. He was being held without bail.
Trent Gaulden, 24, was booked on a probation violation charge. He was being held without bail.
Arland Johnson, 20, was booked on a charge of violating home detention. He was being held without bail.
Roxanne Waye, 36, was charged with violating home detention. She was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail.
Joshua Lambert, 23, was booked on a burglary charge. He was being held without bail.
Richard King, 30, was booked on a burglary charge. He was being held without bail.
Terri R. Barnes, 36, charged with violating forensic diversion. She was being held without bail.
Terry Washington, 31, was booked on a charge of non-support of a dependent. He was being held without bail.
Troy Bradbury, 28, was booked into the lockup on a charge of being a habitual traffic violator. He was being held without bail.
Joshua Mault, was booked on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and being a minor in possession of alcohol. He was being held without bail.
Joe Carlisle, 43, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and driving with a suspended license. He was being held in lieu of $3,250 bail.
Kenneth Niswonger, was booked on charges of resisting law enforcement and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was being held in lieu of $3,250 bail.
Donald Slay, 42, was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was released on his own recognizance.
Raul Jimenez, 22, was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was released on his own recognizance.
Angela Mason, 34, was charged with three counts of fraud to an institution and three counts of theft. She was being held in lieu of $37,500 bail.
Erica Lightning, 32, was booked on seven counts of fraud. She was being held in lieu of $17,500 bail.
Jeffrey Gleason, was booked on a theft charge. He was released on $2,500 bond.
Nickolas Bolin, 18, was booked on a charge of aiding in a burglary. He was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Vincent True, 24, was booked n a charge of receiving stolen property. He was released on $2,500 bond.
Michael Storch, 45, was charged with two counts of resisting law enforcement, receiving stolen auto parts and possession of paraphernalia. He was being held in lieu of $6,500 bail.
Montreale Turner, 28, was charged with dealing cocaine and resisting law enforcement. He was being held in lieu of $53,250 bail.
Stephen Pinkney, 41, was charged with cocaine possession, resisting law enforcement and receiving stolen property. He was being held in lieu of $5,750 bail.
Ronald Buchanan, 37, was charged with domestic battery. He was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail.

not likely to see 2008
A man stands alone, in opposition to criminals. His house has had damage from fire and other vandalism. This man's stance against the evils around him will undoubtedly make him admirable, but unlikely a martyr. I think this man's exit from life will be quick and diagnosed as health related. Sad to say that most people, including myself, would not likely combat the locals here for control over the area--being respectful and clean. God speed to him.

and then they found another layer
The area is rampant with unemployment, crime, incest, poverty, poor and limited housing. What could possibly make this more ... oh! I see that they found yet another, and this time is isn't a person thing. Toxic waste found in center near low-cost housing and a school with the most at-risk students. I think this area should be renamed Bangladesh.

Dare to be stupid
Wah! You didn't tell me you were going to adopt him! I just thought you'd raise him. Okay, number one: farming your child out to America to notorious BCH was your first mistake. Your second one was having group argue with and for you. Your third mistake was stating that you didn't know she was going to adopt the boy. Uh, you're dumber than you think we are.
Of course she was going to adopt him. Of course you knew that. Of course money that could be spent on your child and raising him will now be wasted in court and in lawyers' fees. Who wins, certainly not the boy. What a complete assinine situation!

It keeps him from gaying off the handle
I can understand, I mean ... there he is in the 80s.
"Are you wearing perfume?"
"Yeah."
"Are you wearing make up?"
"Yeah."
"Are you wearing lipstick?"
"Yeah."
To properly complete this, the statement would be, "For God's sake why", but this isn't Mrs. Doubtfire. In fact, George Michael's homosexuality and insanity was well known to anyone who took a look at him. The fact that he smokes pot is really immaterial, save that he wasn't charged with simple possession, processed by police and fined accordingly.
Pot makes him sane ... that's like "killing a person or two" keeps me capable of dealing with others.
If you're gay, you're gay! If you're insane, you're insane! I think that you proved poor judgement when you tossed off in public in a gay theater to be caught by a homosexual officer trying to make a name for himself. Perhaps someone who was rebuffed. Anyway ... smoking pot on stage is just another tip that people should stand clear of you. There are more clear signs why.

Charlie glow stick
One could make an association between this and mutant vials seen in movies, or like Goblin formula in Spiderman. Okay, I needed a seque to mutants.
I was over there yesterday and Charlie had a bugger of a time with a particular game, X-Men Legends.
Let me explain the unfairness of the game:
only specific points in the game to save (sometimes long, far apart),
no difficulty setting,
no realistic way to play multiplayer until full completion of game,
collectible tokens of no value,
typical useless dialogue that does not further the game nor enlighten or entertain the player,
limited in-game instructions,
replay restarts at level 1,
no replay with multiple players (see note regarding completion of game)
I give it an "F", which is a more typical ranking for games, otherwise I would give it a 2.2 on a 10-point scale.

exercise
Anti-American Muqtada's al-Sadr Shiite militia briedly seized control of a southern Iraqi town. The Iraqi military and milia came and negotiated a withdrawl. This probably was a test to see where the Americans are strong and weak and how loyal the Iraqi police are to them and to Iraqi and its many groups. If they wanted to kill, groups have shown great willingness to kill and die to meet their objectives. Here, it appears that it was a mere exercise, in that there weren't hundreds slaughtered or killed execution style to make a point. I believe this is a new, safer strategy for the groups, saving their strength and numbers to do a walkthrough before the seige.
The Kurds are the people who should worry now, for they are a feared, yet more successful group without allies in the region. If the same tactic were used in the north, I would see it as a direct training exercise to find where the "walls are thinnest".

I watched it. It had some interesting bits to it. Once was enough. There were a few things they attempted to introduce, but the movie never redressed them. Oh, well. I wouldn't rank it high. I liked much of the soundtrack.

2006, a remarkable year
While John Karr, much like a habitual drunk driver, walks away unscathed, his actions brought results this year. I think, although he certainly wasn't the cause, he really showed how vulnerable people and society are and that the laws does not protect people, especially children. I think the penalty phase should run about like: you have two options and two options only. You may either enter the crematorium kiln alive or you may enter it dead. Either way it doesn't make any difference to me, but to you, I think already dead might be "more pleasant".
2006 might very well mark a year where America, for a short while, stands up and addresses the injustices here and the law's inability to correctly handle molesters. Note the number of prior arrests and convictions of those in the ring. Should those persons re-enter society? Are they more capable of handling their impulses? Statistics, while they don't lie they can be deceiving. Stats here, undoubtedly would show that less than 5% of those caught, ever stop. Okay, so ... they are dumped back into society for what purpose?
American should make this a banner year for convictions and retaining molesters and rapists. 2006 should be a proud year, not with loss, but with improvement. I hope, after the decades of watching these crimes, many of which are never reported and some are not adequately investigated that society wearies so much of it that it takes a bolder stance on molesters and rapists. Make 2006 a year with better, stronger, more effictient law protecting soceity from predators.

To Madonna
far from immaculate, far from Guadalupe/Madonna/Mary mother of Christ, it is admirable that you should take it upon yourself to adopt and raise a child. I would like to intercede here and mention, while you have the money, and maybe the time, you lack any possible ability to raise a child as a person. For this reason, I respectfully request that you find another worthy parent or couple capable of raising him, while similtaneously helping the financially with the inital costs of raising the child.
A person who puts herself on a cross, as though a martyr during her concert, while including live sex acts or pantomined sex is really, not ready to be a parent. Verified orgies and partner swapping with multiple people known and unknown within the house, really is akin to trailer genetics. Do not, and I mean this sincerely, do not, attempt to raise a child as you are too selfish, too self-invovlved and too ignorant to raise one.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Mexico refuses foreign corn
It's okay for the people to leave the country strife with overpopulation and financial difficulties, but it isn't okay to plant hardier genetically modified corn. Corn, a general staple doesn't get in? Are they sure they support this fool who is the President? Why would you block a potentially healthier and hardier plant in favor of native species exclusively? That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. If you didn't need the food, which they do, and if there were climate issues and pollution issues, which there are, perhaps then I could see not using the food.

Tom Jones said it
No one, no one, no one ever -- is to blame. Foley tries to squirm out of reprisal and justice by accusing priest, who then denies "sex", but claims memory lapses due to tranquilizers. So, let me get this straight. The tranquilizers disabled the priest from making decisions, leading him to molest Foley, who in turn, under Helsinki Syndrome (victim duplicating crime upon another) sought to engage in sex with minors. Oh, so the tranquilizers are to blame rather than the people involved, the so-called adults, who should take responsibility for their actions. I see. I also, disagree. They did it. They knew it was wrong.

job search engines that work
but, piggy-back on others, such as yahoo hotjobs ....
Job Bank USA, which is also your state if you select it, JobBank[your state].
Thingamajobs also works pretty well.
I have found that most of the postings on these places are more for professionals, in that experience and degrees are required. A few others I have used are not as picky, such as regional help wanted, Career Builder, Monster Jobs.
I also have found that these sites are all glitchy in their own way. What irks me most is that a site can show a job, the link leads you to another site, which then has a link to the compnay itself, through which you apply. What a waste of my time! Moreover, there are postings that lead you to employment agents that take 25-50% of what you could be paid, leaving you with substandard pay and little/no benefits. A good example of this would be Man Power, which could be dubbed as ManEater or Abuseof Power. I worked for a short time, for Kelly Services and if any employer is smart they won't use them. While I was there, they were the least efficient place I'd seen. They paid me for at least 10 hours of sitting doing nothing, but waiting. I wasn't the only one and I wasn't the one who waited the longest. I know what they paid me and I know they take a chunk. I would highly recommend that companies stay away from them, since they are very wasteful.

Dark Water
Spells deep trouble for those wanting a good movie. It borrowed ideas from Ring, Grudge, and a couple others. While the acting wasn't terrible, the dialogue was. I liken it to an orca movie, with enough red herrings to keep most orca well fed. I think, perhaps I am wrong, it was a Lifetime (for women) movie that actually hit the theaters, in the way that it victimized a woman, then her child, then an unknown child, matched with paranoia both founded and unfounded. It would strike a win or "liked it" category with women who watch Lifetime channel movies. I, surprisingly, didn't like it. I like Jennifer Connely, but it wasn't a good movie.

Tikki Tikki Tembo, a long since seen bit, was refreshing. I remember the old film strip version I saw in class so many decades ago. It is still interesting. I saw for the first time, Penguin Cinderella. It was odd, surely, but not unwatchable.

Human Body for Children: All About Bones & Muscles , Schlessinger Science Library. This is fairly informative with vidoe and graphics. It is posted as being appropriate for K-4, an assessment with which I agree. It would be a neat addition to an educators handbag for science introduction the human body. There are others in the series, I have watched only this one.

Okay, that's just stupid! Democrats are lobbying to remove voter ID requirement for voting. How in the heck is this a burden? If you don't drive, you can get a state ID. I believe often, you can present your ss card which bears your signature, matching that of your voter registration card. So ... this attempt to remove the ID requirement is all bad. How many people has it really excluded? I actually think that the whole voting should be by fingerprint only. That way there is one voter, one vote. If you're a con, then you don't vote. It's that simple. It removes the ID process by requiring you to have fingerprint on file. Generally, those worried about that are those who are more likely to commit crime.

Ass sets
I got a call back from a company in Indy. I had to do some number crunching to see how much weekly rates are for hotels there. I weighed that against the projected payrate. I could only get the weekly rate from one hotel. Most other hotels are so full of illogic, that I couldn't get a weekly rate. When a hotel's online serice notes that more than one month rate cannot be calculated and I did it twice 30 days and 28 days. How is that not a month? Anyway, so far, the payrate minus the weekly rate that may or may not stay static, isn't so good. It far exceeds an apartment which might be more inclined if I were to have a paystub showing that I'm working there, ya know?
I just got soured on online hotel reservations that tout weekly rates, when you can't get them to disclose the rates. Pains in the ass!

Really worth reading
Dose of Sanity, a psychiatrist sums up his approach to assessment, partially based on an examination of a 24-hour day. Since medical/psychological help is sought, then clearly something is amiss or aberant, at least from the patient's POV. Here, the larger part of the book is explaining the errors of psychiatry, when not approached from a medical basis, including is the over-prescription of America and the pop self-help gee-whizes who sell an idea, regardless whether it helps people or not.
This is not a self-help book. It is a book detailing an approach by neuropsychiatry which might replace the norm. That author hopes that many people aggrivated with typical pill-prescribing docs who treat their patients with insane and inane treatments, including those in his own field, drop that which doesn't help and move on to real medicine, based on blood tests, medical workups and asking questions, rather than a script after 45 minutes.
It was enlightening and worth reading. It's short, 235 medium sized font and set so just about any layperson could read it.

Quick books, quick review
Shel Siverstein, Runny Babbit, not very good work. The recurring theme of letter transpostion was clever for two poems, but not a book. Hmpht!
Jack Prelustsky, poet, A Pizza the Size of the Sun, fanciful, whimsical, fun. Coupled with James Stevenson (greyscale) illustration make for a good book of poems. Adults might also find many of the poems quirky and cute as well.
English Freshly Squeezed by Carol Diggory Shields is interesting. While not every page is gorgeously crafted, it does use each topic in each poem. One topic, exclamation marks, using them the ends of each sentence, crafted in such a way that they are not wasted or added only for color. If a school or class wanted to demonstrate grammar and poetry, this is it! A+ material for introducing grammar with clever, helpful, fun poems.

Howl's Moving Castle
Miyazaki borrowed some ideas from his earlier works to put together another tale of where love conquers all, a girl protagonist, and magic. The musical score is very similar to Spirited Away, but not disenchanting. Here, he addresses shallowness, greed and eny. There has been something about his work -- something, but here in the post WWII, mixed with Hong Kong feel -- VonTrap sandwiched there too, is American Girl series, the dolls, coupled with other sales items like movies. I'll have to see if there is much on him. He seems to be writing for a daughter who never ages.
It has rewatchability and has no strong adult content. The war in the backdrop plays a role in character coloring and a theme of pointlessness of war. In the end [SPOILER -- the war is called off, for a boy's heart cannot be won by a jealous queen]
I think, if I had a little girl, she would very much like this movie. The English version I saw had some voices, which seemed to me like Billy Crystal. I can only hope that Wikipedia is correct here for the voices:
Character | Japanese version | English version |
---|---|---|
Howl | Takuya Kimura | Christian Bale |
Grandma Sophie | Chieko Baisho | Jean Simmons |
Calcifer | Tatsuya Gashuin | Billy Crystal |
Young Sophie | Chieko Baisho | Emily Mortimer |
Witch of the Waste | Akihiro Miwa | Lauren Bacall |
Markl | Ryunosuke Kamiki | Josh Hutcherson |
Madame Suliman | Haruko Kato | Blythe Danner |
Prince Turnip | Yo Oizumi | Crispin Freeman |
Lettie | Jena Malone | |
Suliman's Servant | Mitsunori Isaki | |
Heen (Dog) | Daijiro Harada | --same as JP-- |
Still, I would rate Spirited Away, for sheer re-watchability as my favorite of his work. Since ... Moving Castle is based on a book, I will have to get that some time.
I think another recurring element in his work is smoke and clouds. Perhaps difficult for some to master, but he seems to have a team that realistically renders these ambiguous gases and makes them live. The film incorportates, as do all his films, different styles of motion, stills, animation. Some of the humor is very subtle and some visual humor is, well worth watching and can't be written as funny.
After some further reading, he directed (English name: Lupin IIII) I have never seen all of this, but some of it was included in an '80s laser disc arcade game. Lupin has many sequels and some TV episodes. From what I saw of it, it was definately the forerunner for physical comedy and slapstick found later in Poke'mon and other cartoons.
I was already thinking about seeing Howl's Moving Castle, when MR mentioned that I should watch it then bitch about it.

Ken Lay
returns from the dead, having faked his own death after the verdict of his guilt, in light of the verdict being tossed out by the judge. Now, having lots of time and money, Ken hopes to enjoy the unembalmning, but sees no need for further botox injections, as the embalming fluid has made him, "fresher" looking. Okay, none of that is true or nice to write, but hey ... there is no way he was innocent of all charges there. I guess, it makes a small bit of good news to his family, of little confort to those who lost because of the illegal trading.

Blade of the IRS
Wesley Snipes tried to not pay taxes, then claim he needed taxes back. What wild ideas! I think all of that heavy martial arts moves he learned might be useful in prison, if he goes. Filing for tax refund of $12 million, can't come without a penalty. Vampire Blade and investigator at 1900 Pennsylvania Ave may have some interesting dodging and figures to fight, by his own making.

poker tip
Don't play with somebody if they have a machete. If they're drunk and they have a machete, you're just asking to play, Scarface, if you ever saw the movie. An Indiana man gets 50 years for kiling another poker player with a machete. Okay ... so, why did you have that? Did you like, uh ... come in after cutting down folliage from the backyard then? The sad thing is, he could get out in 25 with "goood" behavior. This non-English speaking defendant seemed remorseful, but butchered death --- machete? Come on man! This isn't Havana!

Calling a bluff
I support the Ohio police is killing this man. Undoubtedly, there will be a flood of soppy-eyed bleeding hears claiming illegiimate killing, but I think they erred on the side of caution to hospital patients. The man claimed he was going to kill one of them, made a move toward an are where he might have a weapon. Should the officers waited until he had the weapon drawn on a person or them ... I think not.
For the families of the officers in the shooitng, I prematurely offer my sympathy for the crap you'll have to endure with those who would rather a robber shoot their family, than fatally defend their family. If somebody comes in to hurt your family ... like the man recently charged with killing a family, leaving two alive who he kidknapped and raped, then killed the boy. The girl was fortunate enough to survive the weeks of rape and made a break when the felon brought her inside a restaurant with him.
Would you stand by and let him take your kids and kill your family? Hell no you wouldn't! If you were a reasonable person you would grab the nearest weapons -- lamp, chair, pencil and charge after him, stopping at nothing but your death or his.
For the Ohio police stopping a man who would, likely have later done more crime, of a more violent nature, I salute your quick action in bringing down the man. The officers tried a stun gun, but it was ineffective. They tried, but the suspect clearly wasn't going to stop.

helpful local crime search engine
I looked up this street and found, suspicious person seen. Whatever that means. Anyway, it was quite useful. Who know it existed?
I hope that other cities have this as well.

Absolutely Fabolous
Rapper Fabolous whose lyrics include gang warfare with snipers is shot by men. In the car were unregistered (illegal) handguns -- shock! Fabolous is in hospital, likely to find trial proceedings against him. Hey, live and die the "g" life, ass*****! You say, you write, you die it!

I don't know why it's on the books
Indiana might release someone who killed another man. The guilty person was found "not guility by reason of insanity", which means that after institionalization, he can be free, never serving jail time. He was in a mental facililty for months, but has been found "sane" by doctors there. They should be required to rotate their housing/boarding of him, since he is "sane" now. I think, if I were ever in trouble, I would act like a rabbid dog, clawing myself so that I could be in a nice padded cell, get fed and pampered and then act, 'all better now' after several months.
So, you kill someone, act crazy and have stupid doctors believe your bull. You then gradually act better when you get your scooby snacks for correct behavior. After that, you can go into hiding and kill again, meanwhile the doctors can pat themselves on the back over their "success story" with the wild man who killed someone. Society pays the price for this heinous miscarriage of justice.
Get this law off the books. If you're crazy, then you are crazy. I think if you are then found "all better now" you should then enter into prison, having a new ability to deal in reality. Better still -- if you're crazy enough -- kill yourself. Eliminating the responsibility part of a crime helps absolutely no one. I think they should find the lawyers who wrote the law, then those who passed the law and jail them for obstruction of justice. What complete bullcrap!

Suave Chavez
"How did a gargoyle like that ever get to be judge?"
"A couple years back, he spread out a million samollians and bought the election."+
So, Chavez is buying his way into the hearts of many. Yep, that will probably pan out for him as long as he has money. I do think that soon, internal strife will take hold and you'll hear more about political opponents being slain and protesters arrested. If the country has that much money, which it doesn't, it shoudl at least spend more at home. He is buying political capital, while like a communist letting his own country fester a bit.
I'm sure that since he touched so many, he will also wanted to be touched later, when it comes time. While I won't give him brilliance, he is clever. I hope his own people don't suffer long.

dead teen
my neice was sad last week, for a friend (or someone she knew) died. A day later, they announced it was suicide, by hanging. What is significant here is that he was Muslim. I believe that he was born in the US. I know in town there is a very small population of Muslims, but to my knowledge there is one or no mosque anywhere near. I understnad that it is custom, by religion, that the body be laid to rest in the ground within 24 hours. That is interesting. I could write much more on the juxtaposition some Muslims make with some of their actions, but I'll consider that later.
Of the times in any person's life that suicide is most seductive, attractive and desirable is generally in the teen years. I would hazard to guess, being a Muslim in a town with few others, with the times as they are (aggression and anger towards Muslims in general), and being a teen, I think this is tragic, bur foreseeable. The teen years are tough, but for a Muslim in this town with more direct US involvement in wars, it would be very tough to stick it out.
My sister called to see if the paper online had the obituary but it didn't. For shame, for some might need a little closure, whereas this might deny them of that. hmmmm

looking familiar
Is she listed twice? She's 18 and 26? So if I search for her, which girl am I getting? Do I get the dark-haired cutie or the blonde one who's not looking at the camera? Better still, Katebabe has fluctuating cup size breasts. How does she do that? Overall, I don't think they're being very honest with me.

French don't rape
Check out the law. Touring in France, bring protection -- and I don't mean trojans.
Try this one, a woman in a Muslim country alleges gang rape, and she is then arrested for adultry (a Muslim crime). How do you like that? Hmmm, gang raped, then jailed. What a wonderful system of government you got there! My qeustion is ... why would any woman want to be Muslim?

Happy birthday!
This is a sequel to this pair, the dog giving out the penalty and the cat receiving it. The first was the cat's poker streak, always losing. Rather than gamble for money, it was for penalties which were on file. Here, the dog got tired of the cat being in the way and penalized him with displays all ready for him to endure. Here, it's happy birthday with explosives on the cake.
