A D D does not add up to stupid

I mentioned a little while ago to my family about a lovable fictional character who has severe ADD. Sadly, this was taken as a slam and equated with stupidity. My neice in that family has been "diagnosed" with ADD and is getting some treatment. Sad to write that she acted as if it were a death sentence. I don't know if she has that severe of ADD and doubt really that she has it, but rather she gets thoughtful. If interested, she'll focus on something -- she's a child, that what they do. Some people in the medical field might suggest that this is a sign of ADD. That might be so, but it's also a typical response of a child.

I am not a proponent of overly medicating people. Some people need medicine and some people do well with medicine. I think, however it is too readily dispensed to be legitimate. I wonder about the 8 year olds taking ritalin now, how they will be as adults.

I find it rather strange or unreal that in this day and age, especially when kids are generally loaded with drugs at younger and younger ages, why the label of ADD was so painful to her. ADD and ADHD are fairly common labels (another thing I don't like -- labels) to conditions. Too often, they are ADD [name here] or ADHD [name here], rather than Felicity+ or Philip +.

There is a lot more to behavior than aberant (which really appears to be common) brain chemistry. People act because of a lot of reasons; experience, immaturity, allergies, chemical reactions, unwitnessed stimuli, pathological onset (such as brainwashing, or overdisciplining), maturity, and yes brain chemistry anomalies. I believe too often that the last item is first assumed. That does no one any good when the others are also eliminated.

ADD doesn't add up to stupid nor is it a tragic disease. It is a treatable condition that in some cases with some people in certain circumstances, really is a problem. Without a doubt there are people who really do better on medication. To my knowledge, no one has died attributably to ADD. It isn't a death sentence and isn't a disease. I wish my neice would not take it as such. Still, I feel at fault for not better stating myself about the humor of the fictional character -- a caricature of an idea.

+ each having some treatable condition for which they are receiving treatment.

Lenny Kravitz base

I keep getting call hangups today. I beleive it highly likely it is, "Are you votin' my way?"

"All I've gotta, gotta know, is ... are you votin' my way?"

What kind of job?

Your**uckingjob!

Well, what I read at first got my attention. I didn't apply, but thought, well ... if you have an evil mind, easily dismiss things, you got a completely different assumption of this.

Bad calls

I see an open door and want to paint it black. No schooling any more, I want to turn it black.

Sadly, this article, giving little info paints a black (here, I mean dismal) picture of the NAACP in a sour attempt to colorize IUPUI with lawsuits.

Lawsuits regarding discrimination generally do well, unless the defense has a lot of witnesses. While I don't know whether the university is or isn't colorful enough, you can't and should sue someone into hiring people who aren't seeking the position. Also, buildings get torn down for a number of reasons. This should hardly be a case of -- you did it on purpose because the founder was black. Moreover, "outlandish" does describe quite rightly, the demand for a new cultural center made from student fund.

That's a mess, I'm not stepping near it.

For namesake?

Richard Smiley, 37 Charge: Dealing cocaine.

Why is he always smiling ... oh, now I get it!

add 'em up

Indiana law review citing a case of a con man who conned elderly people out of their money who received D felony convictions. The problem being is that since they were class D felony convictions, he gets a lighter sentence. There are now people considering ammending the law to redefine the arbitary value of $100, 000 as the maximum dollar figure for class D felony.

Simply, I suggest you frag 'em, but in leiu of that, I offer then, the felony to be considered then as the total value of the thefts combined, perhaps also allotting financial hardship due to theft; such as medical issues stemming from theft.

While the victims did hand over the money, willingly, it is still theft as it was based on a lie (fraud).

I think perhaps another penalty, if not offered, is lifetime community service. Those sentenced could, for the rest of their lives, clean highways or the like.

Thankfully, it was a secret

The US played War Games in 1999 and found that the Iraq war was a possibility. This peeves me for two reasons. I really like the "timely" manner in which this was diseminated to the public and the government. I also find that "we knew" is generally an, "I told you so (nee-ner nee-ner nee-ner)" or that someone looked at results and found that they could say that their predictions among millions were right. Conspiracy theorists find success with this because who is to then challenge them without having a long-winded and unnecessary debate.

444 days

And these butt-munches want American tourists? F 'em! I'm old enough that this was real for me -- hostages held for 444 days. Are there reports that they got fat like Guantanamo Bay detainees, no. They were treated terribly. They weren't POW's for they weren't military.

Iran,

America has shown you that "we are untrustworthy". I can safe unabashedly, that you too have shown no capacity for reason or rationale. If you ever want America off your back in out of your backyard, stop chanting, "Death to America". Better still, learn to communicate. Death chants aren't communication. Including death chants in "daily prayer" isn't peace or prayer or love, it's hate. You practice and adore hate, demonstrated by this.

Perhaps the strategy for America should be to hold Iran's government hostage for 444 days, mistreat it, and send it on it's way into obscurity. Can anyone name one survivor of the hostage taking? Nope, didn't think so.

Saddam sentenced

To be hung by his skin until dead ... uh, I mean, hung by orifaces until dead, oh, wait.

He's sentenced to die by hanging. He's eligible for appeal six months after the sentence is carried out in full view of anyone wishing to watch on Al-Jazeirez, which will continually contend that it is a Saddam double being executed.

Then, the world was a better place.

Girls Don't Fart!

Kari Byron, sweetie from Mythbusters has a tough time breaking a myth. If anything, she's sweeter for all of it! Perhaps a better explanation would be by Rodney Carrington, Girls Don't Fart.
