Ahmadinejad apparently has a friend, not in Jesus but, in media. I try scanning through MSNBC and there is his face thrice or more weekly. On CNN, articles count him as an important person with whom to talk and discuss things. What the? So, this leader who has returned Iran back to the Shah's regime essentially is worthy of the time of day? How many US lawmakers have they met and interviewed? How many times have they tried interview, oh ... I don't know ... Bush, Cheney?

While I have a long history of berating FOX for blatant partiality and bias, this makes Rush Limbaugh look demure. This leaves to wonder why some (or more) of the media darn-near worships the man. He's anti-America, pro nuclear research that will develop weapons. What part of this guy isn't dangerous?

City shows how money will be wasted

In a bold move, the city has finally allowed the local taxpayers to see how their good money will be wasted on an ill-thought project to install a minor league stadium into downtown for no real good reason. As noted there are spaces TBI and rental spaces. So ... let me get this straight.

You bought these two square blocks for a stadium that might fill better than the other one? This new stadium won't be as conveniently located as the other one? The spaces around the stadium will be rentable, but you don't have set businesses yet?

Now, let's think of how long it will take, cost overruns, refixing errors in construction ...

AIDS and a cure claim

As covered on MSNBC, Gambia's president claimed to have an AIDS cure. While the call to stop other treatments is dangerous, two other requirements make sense. Since some of the country is Muslim, he calls that patients stop drinking alcohol -- huh, go figure. He also requests that they stop having sex. Now that there is a good idea. Since much of Africa's continent is populated with people resistant to prophylactic use, abstinence makes sense.

That's kinda of like a third-degree burn patient with necrotic tissue on the hands suggested not to be the sous chef or barbecue expert. That's pretty sound advice.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reminded people that there is NO CURE FOR AIDS. Since better financed countries have been working on any cure for more than ten years, it seems unlikely, to say the least, that topical pastes and bitter drinks can cure AIDS. It seems to me that the "medicine" also didn't need refrigeration.

News Damnit!

I was talking with MR and he suggested that MSNBC was slanted more than even CNN. That was surprising as I thought it was more evenly critical. There is no American media that isn't on one side or another of the teeter totter of bi-partisan politics, so you have little choice but to get sided. He mentioned a TV program with some guy. I quickly interjected that I don't watch it, I read it.

Today I thought about what the difference is between reading and seeing. There is a great reason why news wants you to watch. First, you see advertisements which pay bills and make them money. Second, seeing and hearing is more personal. You feel almost engaged in a conversation, but you aren't. You are still the passive listener. Even, like zealot fans jeering the game, if you argue with that person -- what's the point?

I read the news. I can read other sources and scrutinize and better extract the important, factual work. There is no "evil theme music" online or print. There is no animated bombs or bouncing faces with text. It is more difficult to influence you without the deceptive media (intentional or otherwise).

Entertainment news should have the required label of not news, but "gossip". Paris Hilton seen reading three pages of middle-school level book --- more news on E!.

He's cured

Boy ... here comes the crap just dropped in the fan.

Ted Haggard got therapy for his gayness. I'm okay and not gay now. Boy, that's going to do wonders for society. You see ... you're gay, but with therapy, we can get that gayness under control. Now with talk therapy and Gaynomo (TM), those suffering with homosexuality can be cured of that wicked disease.

The DSM III listed homosexuality as a disease, while the DSM IV did not. There are schools of thought on both, but it has been the prevailing idea being gay is not a disease. This Haggard person in the spotlight undoes all of that. Now, back nearly to square one, homosexuals have an uphill battle.

I personally state, if you are gay, then you are. If you are bi-sexual, then you are gay. I don't regard it as a disease for many people do gay things, act gay, and engage in homosexual acts for many reasons. One, it is trendy to bend the rules, including sexual bounds. To do gay things, smiling all the way ... to be trendy, you can't then respond, "I'm not gay." You are.

DUI, DWI, why, oh why, oh me, oh my

FW posted its stats on DUIs and showed Indianapolis as a contrast/comparison. If you will note that FW has more arrests and more fatalities. I would note here that FW police, while I have some misgivings about their efficiency, have done a great job arresting people. That many arrests with a smaller force and a smaller population is a very commendable effort. I'd say cheers to FWPD for their successes, not failures. FW has a great number of "watering holes" where the tenders don't much care how much you imbibe, as long as you're off the property by close. These same places have generally cash receipts that are not tracable. Who's to blame -- the drinker, but the establishment catches blame too.

With DUIs on the rise, it's worth mentioning that DUI is a blanket term for drugs, alcohol and others. FW has the sad fate of needing a strong police force. This city is a HUB and center for drug distribution from Chicago, Detroit, Indy, Toledo. We are not in a pretty situation for drug enforcement. "We need more men"+ I don't know how many people will read this and continue or start a foul relationship with the police, but I think they are doing a noble and successful job with DUIs.

It might be a good article, but you mention by name girls corrupted like Paris Hilton, and others, and here you have her on the screen. Brilliant thinking there buddies! My city is going to go deep red like battlefields of old. The schools need fixing, got it. That bill is $500 million. The city bought lots of property downtown and will build a stadium, which is a bad idea. That is $100 million. There are infrastructure projects, which should take place over the ill-fated downtown project. That is $25 - $200 million. So where is the city going to get the money ... not us, said the the citizens. Not us, said the annexed regions of the city. Not us, said the loan companies. Not us, said the few companies staying because they aren't paying taxes.

So, the homeowners and taxpayers get the new bill of $1 billion dollars, payable over a ten to fifteen year period. Thanks, thanks, and thanks!

To law enforcement and citizens, I offer this one simple tip: make no pretense about it, suspect is not to be taken alive. A hero's welcome to the person(s) responsible for the proper capturing and executing of the guilty serial rapist. We are not interesting in the live capture of this person. You may use any means necessary. Please include disintigration. Take a stand ... evil must go.

miscarriage of justice

While the woman who miscarried her child is suing the officers and that is a tragedy, I would follow up with Liar, Liar's quote of, "Quit breaking the law, ***hole!" It is a shame she miscarried. That is a sadness and worthy of grief. What I think the media missed on this one was she was arrested. Now, the infractions were minor, but they didn't arrest her for being pregnant nor for being Black. She had a few items noteworthy for arrest.

Let us hope the jury sees it this way too.
