Marked down

It's a shame when I read Lio by Mark Tatulli that I reasonably infer that he is denounced for his characters' rude behaviors. If that is the case, the protesting group must not have ever read or protested Calvin & Hobbs, Far Side, Opus, Doonsbury, et. al. I wonder if those same people ever read or protested those cartoons? The same might be reasonably remarked about Shrek.

I like his work. Heart of the City smacks of allusions more relevant to my generation including Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Star Trek, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the Reagan years.

99.9999 percent of the antics of Lio cannot be duplicated. Is there a child who can put together a 50' robot that terrorizes the town? There are far fetched battle dramatics between a strange boy and his interest, an equally strange girl who will have nothing to do with him. Generally, Lio spend his time in working on his next great adventure or is kind to even the disenchanted "monsters" of many fears -- those that lurk under the bed.

So, whether the persons protesting are editors or readers, shove off and let interested readers be delighted in with his endeavors.
