Thanks to Vic Lee of Pardon My Planet for the term, "... raise them free range" in regards to how to raise children.
I have written many times about the virtues of raising children and the difference between fathering and child and siring a child or its corollary, mothering and bearing a child. In my expereince, most children are raised, but notably the ones not raised are the more memeorable ones, some of whom might make it to adulthood, which is scary for any rational person. A long-ago co-worker once remarked, "You are emancipated", after watching the so-called adult parents laize-faire attitude with their children entering the store. The "adults" seemed to not care if the children ran amock and pillaged, ransacked, and in all other ways destroyed the store. The adults would get a token item or rental for the kids and four times that for themselves -- often with drug smells on them (alcohol / pot), but not always. Drugs were independant to their being bad role models and seemingly bad parents -- doing nothing to direct their children.
